GENERAL INFORMATION
An informal meeting will be held for the parents and the child before the commencement of class. During this time, should you have any concerns prior to your child’s admission, kindly discuss them with the Head of Julia Gabriel Preschool.
Orientation for new classes takes place on the first day of Term 1. During the orientation, the teacher will explain the child’s day, the curriculum and the general do’s and don’ts. Parents are advised to pass on relevant information about their child at this meeting e.g. allergies, behaviour, likes and dislikes. All further communication between parent-teacher will be performed through the Seesaw platform. Parents will be carefully guided by the class teacher in the account setup procedure to create accounts in both Seesaw Family and Seesaw Class.
While the children are settling down and adjusting to their new environment, the teacher may request that parents are present for part or all of their child’s first week at school.
Separation for new children may happen during the first or second week of school. It is important that parents have thought through, and are prepared for, the emotional aspects of separation themselves. It is very important that you work closely with the teachers during the separation period in order for the children to have a smooth transition to school.
Children at Julia Gabriel Preschool have access to daily readers, library books and Mandarin books. They are encouraged to borrow books daily and we hope that you will enjoy sharing these books with your child. Your interest and daily participation in this important area will help foster good reading habits and encourage a love of books and reading. Once you have shared the book with your child, please sign the reading record book and return it to the teacher. A book can only be borrowed after the last one has been returned.
Parents are advised that they will be charged a replacement fee of RM80 for each book that is lost or damaged. The fee covers the book and administration costs. All books borrowed must be returned by the end of each term. Books that are not returned by the end of a term are assumed to be lost or damaged and a replacement fee will be charged.
Our staff are First Aid trained and they can administer emergency First Aid when necessary. They are not qualified to diagnose diseases or illnesses. In consideration of other children and staff, please do not send your child to school if he/she is sick or has any of the following symptoms:
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Nasal discharge which is yellow or greenish
- Discharge from the eyes or red itchy eyes
- A rash or blisters especially on the hands and feet
- Ulcers in the mouth
- Consistent cough
Parents are to report any communicable diseases to the school. This will enable us to monitor the illness and keep other parents informed. In order to stop the spread of a contagious disease, we will notify parents as soon as we are aware of the situation. This will enable other parents to monitor their children carefully.
Children who have been ill with any contagious diseases e.g. Chicken Pox, Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) must be deemed fit by the doctor before they return to school. A separate requirement is necessary for children who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
The full information of our health practices and policies is contained within our Julia Gabriel Infectious Diseases Policy 2021. On the management of COVID-19, the school’s practices are contained in our Julia Gabriel Safe Management Measures in Response to COVID-19.
If your child is fit for school but needs to take prescribed medication during the day, please submit a letter with specific instructions for the class teachers.
In the event of a medical emergency, we will contact the parents of the child. Should parents be uncontactable, your child will be taken to the nearest hospital or to the hospital indicated in the medical form. Parents will be charged for the incurred medical cost. Your authorisation for us to contact your family doctor is necessary to enable us to look after your child’s well being.
We require all our children to wear the Chiltern House uniform so that they feel a sense of belonging to the school during term time. Our uniform has been designed to be practical, attractive, comfortable and washable.
It comprises:
- A dress for girls
- A shirt and pair of shorts for boys
- Shorts and a T-shirt for Physical Education
- Non-slip socks
Children are required to wear non-slip socks (socks with rubber soles) at all times.
We provide a book bag in which your child will bring home his/her library books, and school materials for your attention.
