DP/CP Subjects and Courses
There are six different DP subject groups and within each subject group, there are a number of different courses. Students make their particular selections based on a variety of factors. Each student will take 2-4 DP subjects at a higher level (HL) or standard level (SL). At IGBIS, we generally recommend most students take at least three DP subjects with 1 or 2 at HL.
HL and SL courses differ in scope, but are measured according to the same grade descriptors, with students expected to demonstrate a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skill at the higher level. Standard level subjects take up 150 teaching hours, while higher-level courses comprise 240 teaching hours.
At IGBIS, the course offerings can vary annually depending on student interest, but we currently offer the following courses:

The CP Core
In addition to the DP and University courses, students in the CP complete the CP Core which provides students with practical, real world approaches to learning, as well as develops skills and competencies required for lifelong learning
- Personal and professional skills (PPS): students develop attitudes, skills and strategies to be applied to personal and professional situations and contexts now and in the future, by discussing 5 overarching themes like ethics and intercultural understanding
- Reflective Project (RP): an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period of time. It is submitted towards the end of the CP, addressing an ethical issue arising from their career-related studies. High-level research, writing and extended communication skills, intellectual discovery and creativity go into this project.
- Service learning (SL): a research-based approach in which students undertake service initiatives related to topics studied previously in their academic disciplines, utilising skills, understandings and values developed in these studies.
- Language development (LD): encourages students to improve their proficiency in a language other than their best language. Essential to the IB’s concept of an international education.

High School Diploma Programme (HSDP) as part of the IB Diploma Programme at IGBIS
Every student at IGBIS is completing a High School Diploma, as we are a credit bearing school and the completion of the HSD is a graduation requirement. This means that all IGBIS students in the IB Diploma Programme and in the IB career-related programme also complete a High School Diploma on top of their IB Diplomas and certificates.
