International Baccalaureate World School

The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers a continuum of international education programmes that challenge students to excel in both their academic studies and their personal development. The IB philosophies, values and approaches guide our teaching, learning, assessment, curriculum and character development. All four of our IB programmes are authorised and we participate in a five-year cycle to ensure we keep up-to-date with international best practices.

IGB International School is the only International Baccalaureate World School in Malaysia to offer all four IB programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP).

The IB describes these programmes as follows:

  • the PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others, and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child;
  • the MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. The MYP is inclusive by design so that students of all interests and academic abilities benefit from their participation;
  • the DP aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically, and
  • the CP is a framework of international education addressing the needs of students engaged in career-related education. It leads to further/higher education apprenticeships or employment.

Council of International Schools

CIS is a membership community working collaboratively to shape international education through professional services to schools, higher education institutions, and individuals. The CIS vision is “to inspire the development of global citizens through high quality international education: connecting ideas, cultures and educators from every corner of the world (cois.org).” IGBIS became a CIS accredited school in May 2018, following a rigorous process and assessment from a visiting team. The accreditation shows that we are a school that shares a desire to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens; and that we display a commitment to high quality international education. As with the IB, we participate in a five-year cycle to ensure we keep up-to-date with CIS standards and practices.

New England Association of Schools and Colleges

IGBIS is the only school in Malaysia accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and joins prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Yale and Brown Universities in that regard. Founded in 1885, NEASC is an independent, voluntary, non-profit membership organisation that works to establish and maintain high standards for all levels of education. NEASC accreditation attests to a school’s high quality and integrity. The “Award of Accreditation” reassures parents, teachers, universities and governments that the school provides a high quality learning experience, and results in sustained school improvement and a roadmap for transformation. Similar to our IB and CIS accreditations, our NEASC stamp of approval is reviewed by participating in a five-year cycle of self-reflection to maintain our high standards.

Association of International Malaysian Schools

IGIBS has been a member of the Association of International Malaysian Schools (AIMS) since we opened in 2014. AIMS is a non-profit organisation that supports international schools within Malaysia to benefit both educators and students. Among the many services AIMS provides to its member schools, it serves as a link between the international school community and the people of Malaysia, promoting further international cooperation by encouraging cultural, academic and sporting links between schools.

East Asia Regional Council of Schools

The East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) is an organisation of nearly 200 member schools in East Asia who collectively seek to promote intercultural understanding and international friendship through the activities of member schools, and to facilitate communication and cooperative action between and among associated schools. EARCOS inspires adult and student learning through its leadership and service, fostering global citizenship and exceptional educational practices within learning communities. IGBIS became an EARCOS member school in 2018.
