Not only has it been a busy week, but it was also a busy last weekend for a number of IGBIS staff. A group of twelve teachers were engaged in a First Aid update course. To maintain our commitment to student safety, teachers often undergo a variety of different training opportunities, and last weekend was such a time. We are proud of our staff with the commitment they show in keeping their qualifications updated.
The Lunar New Year assembly was firmly on our minds this week with the final practices taking place before the performance on Thursday. Once again the variety of performances was great and the 6 MC’s kept the assembly ticking along. Branching out to include other cultures that celebrate the new year at this time of the year was certainly a welcome development, and I for one learned a lot about Vietnamese and Korean culture today.
A big thanks to all the members of the Chinese department for organising the assembly and the many teachers who were also involved in preparing the students for their performances.
I hope you have a restful and relaxing holiday. Happy New Year to all those who are celebrating over the holiday.

Over 20 ‘Friends of the Phoenix’ gathered in London last weekend for a much-anticipated catch up with our head of school Mrs Anne Fowles, as well as with each other. A scrumptious Malaysian-themed dinner was served with all the typical offerings – satays, nasi lemak and sago gula Melaka, to name a few delicacies – carefully selected to hopefully give everyone a little taste of their favourite treats from “home”. Amongst the attendees were IGBIS graduates from 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019; former students; and even our previous DP/CP Coordinator, Ms Mary Boyd.
Our next ‘Friend of the Phoenix’ reunion will be at school on Saturday, 8 August 2020 – the same day as New Student Orientation / Returning Student Reception Day. Please save the date to join our second annual Phoenix Makan!
